With more people watching movies and TV online, there’s little need for renting DVDs and all of the hassle doing so entails — gas, time and late fees. Redbox is feeling the pinch and, therefore, starting Tuesday, Dec. 2, it’s increasing its rental fees by up to 33%. Here’s the new fee schedule (per day): DVDs are $1.50 (up from $1.20) and Blu-rays are $2 (up from $1.50), plus, tax. Video game fans will take an even bigger hit to the wallet on Jan. 6, 2015, when Redbox starts charging $3 per day — a 50% increase from the current $2 rate.
In a bit of good news, Redbox just launched a loyalty program rewarding members with a free rental for every 10 rentals. Plus, in December, members earn double points.
